New Trial Date Set!

The Fall River District Court has set September 8, 2014,as a firm trial date! The case has been given “priority status,” in light of the use of the necessity defense and the need to schedule out of state expert witnesses, and the prosecution has been asked not to schedule other trials on that date.

We are lining up an all-star list of witnesses, and a whole slew of activities to accompany the day. This is a big moment for the climate movement, and we hope you’ll join us.

So, mark your calendars everyone! Sign up here to receive email updates, and share the Facebook Event!

Trial Date Postponed

We knew it couldn’t be this easy. When we announced earlier this year that the Lobster Boat Blockade trial would take place on May 15th, we had a hunch that it was too simple. And sure enough! Due to changes in our legal team and strategy we are now anticipating a trial in June or July, but do not yet have a certain date. We’ll keep you in the loop as we are able to announce a new date, the key witnesses who will come to testify in defense of bold climate action, and events surrounding the trial itself. In the mean time, if you are able, please click the “Support the Trial” button to the right. Thanks to all who are supporting us on this journey, as it winds itself into increasing complexity.

Trial Set for May 15!

For eight hours on May 15th, 2013 Ken Ward and Jay O’Hara blocked 40,000 tons of Appalachian coal from being delivered to the Brayton Point Power Station in Somerset, Massachusetts, by anchoring their lobster boat, the “Henry David T” between the ship and the pier. Brayton Point is the largest greenhouse gas emitter in New England, and their action helped spark a summer of activity aimed at getting the plant shut down and making Massachusetts coal free.

For their action the two have four charges brought against them and are set to stand trial at the Fall River Justice Center on May 15th, 2014 at 9AM. All are invited to save the date, and join Ken and Jay in Fall River to say that taking dramatic action to end our addiction to fossil fuels and curbing climate pollution is absolutely necessary.

New Website!

Welcome to the new website!  As Ken and Jay prepare for trial, we’ve abandoned coalisstupid.org for a new site.  We’ll be adding content as the trial gets closer.  We expect this to be a place not only for information about the trial, who’s going to testify, the legal process and activities inside and outside the courthouse, but also a place for new thinking about the climate movement.  Glad that you’ve joined us!
